Blood donation: A noble way to serve humanity

DONATING blood is a noble initiative which is glorifying for the donors and life saving for the receivers. Donation of blood relieves people in distress, and at times brings people back from the jaws of death. Unlike the developed world, we do not see many blood donors in our country, mainly because of some wrong perceptions prevailing among common men in our society. There is a wrong perception even among the educated section of the society that donating blood is harmful for health. People should be made aware that donating blood not only helps others in distress, it is also beneficial for the donors in more ways than one. The health ministry should explain in details the benefits we derive from donating blood and create awareness among the common people so that they are encouraged to donate  blood regularly. A healthy adult can donate his or her blood after every four months and our body automatically replenishes the blood which we donate. Often the patients are left with no other choice but to buy blood from the professional donors and many of them are in problem with blood from sick and drug addict donors. Facebook is playing a good role in collecting blood as often we see facebook users requesting their friends to donate blood. We know that only around 25 per cent blood comes from voluntary donation and rest is managed through other sources. 50 per cent of the blood donors are one time donors and if we can motivate them, they can donate blood regularly and we can have more blood in our blood banks. Let us donate blood and encourage our friends and family members to do the same to help the humanity in distress.
